Supporting Orphanages

Volunteering in an orphanage is a great way to really experience the culture of a country, whilst making a contribution and gaining an unforgettable experience, thus it is important to offer such opportunities and life experiences. Orphans tend to be defined as children aged under 18 who have lost their mother, father or both parents (UNAIDS et al. 2004). Vulnerable children can be defined as children whose safety, well-being or development is at significant risk. Amongst others, such children can include children orphaned due to AIDS, children infected with HIV, children caring for terminally sick parents with AIDS, fostered children, children in poor households which have taken in orphans, disabled children, street children, children exposed to excessively hazardous labour, children involved in the sex industry, children affected by conflict, migrant children and children out of school. The extent to which such children can be said to be vulnerable will vary from place to place and community to community.

The volunteers will assist in the daily running of different rural orphanage homes, building and renovating the old homes, teachingand sharing their expertise with the children and community, engage in the home sustainable livelihood projects including agricultural and creative- cultural activities. Your role as a volunteer is to act as a big brother or sister to the children. The particulars of the role can vary depending on duties to be done. In general volunteers will be assisting the children to get ready for school, help them with their homework, play games and organise activities and assist them in practicing English.

Hub allows the opportunity to work with underprivileged children who have been isolated and many times, forgtten by socitety at large, although working with orphans can be physicaly and emotionally hard work, our volunteer find it all the more rewarding. Our volunteers involved themselves in daily activities that helps the facilities run smoothly and show the children that someone direct does care about them and may also be required to help in the daily running of the orphanage, such as helping to prepare food or cleaning, also help with husbandry duties. Volunteers will act as role models for the children, giving them care and encouragement whilst teaching them basic life and health skills.

With time the Hub seek to promote cultural exchanges tours where by these children will be able to travel and perform in different cities, countries and also raise own income from their creative talents.

IT training for Orphans.

Volunteers/Interns deliver different training to empower Orphans capacities in domains of Languages, Environment, IT, Culture Heritage and Health.

This program is for those volunteers/interns who are interested in training vulnerable children. The program aims to provide an opportunity for needy children and orphans to live and learn under one roof until they are adopted or integrated in the community or placed with family members who can take better care of them. Due to extreme poverty, neglect and abuse, many children in Zimbabwe are forced to leave their homes to live on the streets or forced into child labor and trafficking. The society also looks down upon them, and mostly lives under bad conditions. In Zimbabwe there are many orphanages and social centers today focusing on giving hope to those children who does not have a family. They give them house, provide them food each day, training them on some specific topics depending on the age of the children. Our aim through this volunteer programme is to give children extra support so it can provide the children with good quality food, clothing and school supplies. Through the commitment and dedication of the volunteers/interns, am sure will be able to contribute immensely to the basic education of these children who sometimes lack the quality foundation. This offer support, care and family for the orphans and vulnerable. Dzimbahwe Volunteer Program project will help volunteers to be more close to orphans and other deprived children as they will help orphanages in many small daily activities such as cooking and feeding orphans, this way help to get integrate into the orphanage culture and acceptance of kids.

Mentorship and Needs of girls

A special concern for programmes seeking to enable the access to quality education of orphans and vulnerable children is the needs of girl children. As is well known, girls’ education frequently falls behind that of boys for a whole host of reasons. These include factors such as parents’ and care-givers’ decision to prioritize the use of scarce resources on the education of boys and cultural expectations on the division of labour that make girls more likely to have tasks that prevent them from attending school such as household chores or caretaking of younger siblings or sick members of the family. Vulnerability is likely only to exacerbate the impact of such factors, creating a vicious cycle in which the vulnerable girl child becomes ever more likely to become the mother of vulnerable children. Girls corner were once a week as the children guiden will have to visit and have a girls conversation corner.

Why this program and the need for volunteers/interns/sponsors?

Most of the orphanage home supported by the Hub are poorly resourced, under staffed, and are facing lots of problems to run the homes. The orphanage needs extra pairs of hands to help with the day-to-day running of the project with works like cleaning, cooking and serving food to the children. Volunteers/interns are also required to provide some Basic English education to the children, and organize physical and sports lessons and assist the staff in counseling the children. Am sure the attention and love to children will in the long run make a real difference in the life of a needy child. Whether you have a background in childcare or simply enjoy sharing love with kids, a smile can offer something meaningful to the life of kids deprived of love and care.

The Hub volunteer program is designed to reach orphans of all ages, provide the kids with much-needed love and attention, and teaching them through the building of relationships, music, and fun activities! During the holidays will organizes week-long day camps, with sports, crafts, music, games and activities. The goal of the Hub Volunteer Program, is to give hope to orphans and see lives changed…one child at a time! whilst working towards the desired expansion and development of the Hubs works. Hoping to be able to care for a lot children in the future.
